Can God Help Us Say The Perfect Prayer?

1 Corinthians 14:18
18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.

We can live a wonderful life full of God’s grace without ever saying a prayer in tongues, but if we choose to not ever pursue this gift from God then we may always wonder why did God provide this gift of tongues? The Spirit of God indwells us when we are born again. Paul said if he prays in a tongue, his spirit prays but his understanding is unfruitful. If a person only concentrated on this one verse, it would seem natural to take this verse as their reasoning to never say a prayer in tongues. But Paul was explaining that to pray in tongues in the church you would not help the listeners since they couldn’t understand what you were saying, but you would only be helping yourself. That should be a good reason to want to pray in tongues when you leave church, so that you can pray a perfect prayer and help yourself directly by God’s Spirit. But for the most part praying in tongues is very misunderstood. In the same chapter Paul was saying to NOT pray in tongues in the assembly of believers, Paul also said:

  • He prays in tongues more than all of them (1 Corinthians 14:18)
  • Giving thanks to God in tongues is really good (1 Corinthians 14:17)
  • Speaking in tongues is speaking to God (1 Corinthians 14:2)
  • You edify (help) yourself speaking in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:4)
  • Speaking in tongues with interpretation is just as good as speaking in understanding in the assembly of believers (1 Corinthians 14:4, 13)
  • We should do both; praying in tongues and praying in the understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15)
  • We should do both; sing in tongues and sing in the understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15)

Speaking in tongues was prophesied by Isaiah to be a refreshing and a rest to the people of God, as the Spirit speaks to His people with stammering lips in another language. (Isaiah 28:10-12) When you speak in tongues it is not you talking but the Spirit of God in you is speaking.

How Well Do You Pray your Prayer?

We are limited with our human knowledge and God is not limited since HE knows all things past, present and future. Who would know better than God what our prayer should consist of? Isn’t it nice to know that God gave us a gift of speaking in tongues so that He could pray the prayer for us, fixing things for us that we didn’t even know needed fixing through the prefect prayer.

Most of the time when a person says a prayer, they have a problem and they take it to God and ask Him to fix it. Or they could be praying for someone else and their problems. Isn’t it nice to know when you say a prayer in tongues that God aligns your words into the perfect prayer for yourself and your friends? In the 14th verse of this chapter Paul said, “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.”; Notice that he said, “my spirit prays.”; The Amplified translation adds, “My spirit (by the Holy Spirit within me) prays.”; God is a Spirit that comes inside us when we are born again. When we pray in tongues, our spirit is in direct contact with God, who is a Spirit. We are talking to Him in a divine, supernatural way and He is praying the prayer for us since we do not know what we ought to pray for not being able to see into the future. (Romans 8:26)

Prayer that helps with Sickness

Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us  with groanings which cannot be uttered.

God made a way for us to pray for our disease in a perfect way by saying the prayer for us Himself through tongues. Sometimes when we are under stress and not feeling well our prayers may be said in a manner that is not full of faith. When you pray in tongues it is your prayer-that-increasesspirit by the Holy Spirit praying within you, and you can believe the Holy Spirit is praying a perfect prayer for you. In Jude 1:20 we are told that praying in tongues is building yourselves up on your most holy faith. This is like charging up a human rechargeable battery with prayer. The more you pray in tongues the more you are recharging your faith, and with faith you can move mountains of sickness out of your path. Prayer that builds up your faith is always increasing your faith in a perfect way and helping you with your infirmities. (Romans 8:26)

Beloved, the Holy Spirit was sent to dwell with us and to help us in everything in life that we need. Start your day by praying the perfect prayer and see great things happening for you and through you.
