Distracting us Away from Gods Word
Proverbs 4:20–22
20My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.
All too often there are things that come up, trying to distract us from studying Gods word. It seems most people spend the first 40 years of their life gathering stuff and the next 40 years trying to get rid of it. Jesus says that we should take care and protect ourselves against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot. (Luke 12:15-21) It is easy to get distracted from Gods word and forget that our true blessings come from God through Jesus exchanging his victory for our weaknesses.
Blessings Formed by Gods Word
There were two mountains mentioned in Galatians 4 representing Sarah and Hagar; Mount Zion which represents grace and promise and Mount Sinai which represents Law and bondage. The law was given for the people to obey and as they obeyed the law they were considered righteous by their merits and they could receive blessings from God. The Grace of God was given to the children of the promise. This promise was made to Abraham’s seed, and received by their faith in the righteous merits of Jesus and not self-righteousness.
The first covenant in the Bible was made with Abraham and God told him that all his seed would receive promised blessings. The categories of people listed in the Bible were the Jews (Israelite s), the Gentiles and the Church. You were considered a Jew being from the seed of Abraham and the blessings were to follow you as you obeyed the law earning these blessings by your own self righteousness. Until the Church was formed everyone else was a Gentile. The Gentiles did not qualify for these blessings. Through Jesus the Gentiles were justified by faith in Jesus and they become the church. The same qualification the Jews had still applies to the people who are the Church; the laws would need to be kept earning these blessings by merits. This is why Jesus kept the law for the Church and thereby justifying the Church to inherit the blessings of Abraham through Him. The big difference between the Church and the Jews is the Church receives these blessings from Gods word without earning them; it is by faith in the merits of Jesus and not our own right actions. These blessings are released into our lives as we exercise faith in Gods word, proclaiming what God said we would inherit. (Galatians 3:14, 1 Peter 3:9)
Your Blessings are in Gods Word
Many are the distractions sent to undermine the effects that Gods Word can bring into our lives. We are programed in this life to want more things, through advertisements on Radios, television, billboards, and many other advertising Medias. This brings about desires causing some people to go into debt to the extent of having to get two or three jobs to pay the bills they created. They still find time to enjoy all the benefits of their purchases, but there is not much time for personal communion with Gods word or the things of God. The enemy knows that if he can distract people from Gods word, and keep us busy in life doing other things, it keeps the blessings of Gods intentions from being made known throughout the world. (Matthew 13:1-23)
Gods Word tells us that we can have what we ask for in prayer — by simply believing that we already have it! (Mark 11:23-24) With this in mind our best time in life should be spent finding out about the promises in Gods word. We can then enjoy the fruits of the blessings of Abraham without having to hold down three jobs to get it.
Beloved, there is no substitute for Gods word, in it we will enjoy life and health and inherit all the blessings of Abraham by faith.
